Devan Watson dies nearly two weeks after being shot in drive-by incident in Avalon Park


Devan Watson died last week of injuries he suffered in an Avalon Park neighborhood drive-by shooting nearly two weeks ago that also left two other people wounded.

About 10:45 p.m. April 21, Watson, 24, was riding in a vehicle in the 7600 block of South South Chicago Avenue when someone opened fire from a passing vehicle, according to Chicago Police.

Watson was shot in the head and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Aanother man, 27, was shot in the chest, was also taken to Northwestern and listed in critical condition, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Watson was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said. He lived in the 1000 block of East 41st Place.

A 21-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the right arm and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital. Her condition stabilized, police said.

No one was in custody for the shooting as of Monday morning.
