When police first found the body of 17-year-old Darryl M. Ferguson in a home in Fernwood on Tuesday afternoon, they thought the boy might have accidentally shot himself.
But an autopsy showed the teen had been shot in the back, and the death has now been classified as a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Ferguson was shot about 4 p.m. inside a home in the 10200 block of South Normal, according to Chicago Police and the medical examiner’s office.
Ferguson, who lives on the same block, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:19 p.m.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay funeral expenses.
