Jeremy Rogers dies more than a week after being shot during argument in Avondale

Jeremy Rogers died Thursday, more than 10 days after he was shot during an argument in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Rogers, 27, was meeting with someone he knew about 6:05 a.m. June 5 in the 3900 block of West Belmont when they got into an argument, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The other person then pulled out a gun and shot Rodgers in the head.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he remained for over a week, before he died at 3:58 a.m. Thursday, authorities said. He lived in the 1800 block of South Springfield.

An autopsy Friday found Rogers died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Rogers, an aspiring rapper who performed as Jay Roc, was a single father of two boys.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral costs and hospital expenses for the family.
