Taylon Hughes dies two days after being shot while sitting in car with woman in West Garfield Park

Taylon Hughes was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting last week in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

About 11:05 p.m. Friday, the 26-year-old Hughes was sitting with a 40-year-old woman in a vehicle parked in the 4400 block of West Jackson. That’s when a light-colored van pulled up and someone in the back seat opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Hughes was shot in the head and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Thursday ruled his death a homicide.

The woman was also shot in the head and later showed up at Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.
