A South Side man has been charged with gunning down former high school hoops star Jonathan Mills earlier this week in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Travell Taylor, 24, faces first-degree murder charges for the Monday shooting in the 4100 block of West Roosevelt, according to Chicago Police.

About 1:30 p.m., Taylor walked up to Mills and shot him repeatedly, police allege.

Mills, who lived in the 2200 block of West 51st Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:41 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Mills led North Lawndale College Prep to the 2008 Class 2A state championship and the 2009 city title before going on to play at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he played in the NCAA Tournament in 2012.

The father of two daughters, he previously played basketball professionally overseas and was training to make it back there, a former coach said.

Taylor, of the 8000 block of South Normal, appeared in court Saturday and was ordered held without bond.
