Latrell Gipson was shot to death early Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

About 1 a.m., the 27-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 200 block of North Kostner when he heard shots and felt pain, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gipson, who lived in the 1000 block of North Parkside, was shot in the head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m., authorities said.

The crime scene on Kostner stretched from West End to Maypole. A pool of blood could be seen on the sidewalk in front of a brick duplex that was cordoned off with red tape.

Loud music was playing inside a residence as an officer talked on the phone.

“The victim has expired,” she said.
