Person in custody after Corey Buckner killed, man wounded in shooting on Far South Side

A person is in custody for a Riverdale neighborhood shooting that left 17-year-old Corey Buckner dead and a man wounded early Sunday.

About 2:20 a.m., the pair the boy was outside with a 41-year-old man in the 300 block of East 130th Street when they heard gunfire and realized they’d been hit, according to Chicago Police.

They were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where Buckner died of a gunshot wound to the head at 7:57 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 13200 block of South Eberhart.

The man was also shot, though it wasn’t clear where on the body he was hit. His condition was stabilized, police said.

A person was arrested after the shooting and charges were pending early Monday, police said.
