Chadwick Perkins, 26, was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the Wednesday attack at the home he shared with Montgomery in the 3900 block of West 85th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

When they got into a fight just after 5 a.m., Perkins stabbed Montgomery repeatedly across the upper body, authorities allege. The older man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died there at 7:34 a.m.

Perkins was taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation and later charged with the attack, police said.

He was ordered held without bond during a hearing Sunday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is Aug. 24.
