A north suburban motorcyclist has been charged more than a year after a West Rogers Park neighborhood crash that left his passenger, 23-year-old Lauren Lohan, dead in West Ridge.

Paul M. Szydlowski, 32, faces one felony count of reckless homicide for the July 20, 2015, crash in the 7300 block of North Western Avenue, Chicago Police announced Friday night.

About 1:15 p.m. that afternoon, Szydlowski was “weaving in and out of lanes carelessly” while driving a Harley-Davidson north on Western, police allege. He drove eventually into oncoming traffic and slammed into a Toyota Camry, police said.

He and his passenger, 23-year-old Lauren Lohan, were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she was pronounced dead at 3:53 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Lohan lived in the 200 block of Wille Avenue in Wheeling.

Szydlowski, of the 2800 block of Brindle Court in Northbrook, was listed in critical condition after the crash, police said. The 41-year-old woman driving the Toyota was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition.

Szydlowski was ordered held on a $300,000 bond Friday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 1.

A remembrance page has been set up on Facebook by friends of Lohan.
