Kenneth Whitney dies five weeks after being stabbed in the chest during domestic struggle in Auburn Gresham

Kenneth Whitney died Monday, more than five weeks after he got into a fight with his wife and ended up stabbed in the chest in their Auburn Gresham home, according to authorities.

About 10 p.m. July 28, a fight escalated between the 59-year-old Whitney and his wife at the home in the 7800 block of South May, and the 52-year-old woman stabbed him in the chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Whitney was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m. Monday, authorities said. An autopsy Tuesday did not rule on cause or manner of Whitney’s death, with final results pending further investigation.

Yvette Davis was arrested at the time of the stabbing, and investigators recovered the weapon, police said. She was charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic battery, but charges may be upgraded after Whitney’s death.
