Jose Ernesto Martinez was fatally shot Monday night about three blocks away from his home in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The 30-year-old Martinez was shot in the upper chest and armpit about 6:40 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Martinez, of the 5100 block of South Mozart, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:11 p.m., authorities said.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
