Arian J. Smith found shot to death in the kitchen of his home in Ashburn

Police called to a home in the Ashburn neighborhood Tuesday afternoon found the body of Arian J. Smith, who had been shot in his own kitchen.

Police were called at 4:29 p.m. to the home in the 3800 block of West 84th Place, where they found 32-year-old Smith dead on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:36 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Area Central detectives are conducting a homicide investigation, and are trying to determine if the incident may have been a home invasion or robbery.

Smith, a truck driver, had always wanted to be a police officer like his father was, and family members said he was getting closer after passing the Chicago Police Department’s physical and written exams.

Smith was a father of three children—6, 3 and 2—and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help his children.
