Gunshot wound kills Anthony Banks nearly 30 years after he was wounded in 1987

Anthony L. Banks was in his early twenties when he was shot, and 30 years later, at age 52, he died of his wounds.

On Wednesday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled the death of the South Side resident, who was shot in 1987, was a homicide.

Banks died at his home in the 3800 block of South State Street at 10:16 a.m. Sept. 30, according to the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy has since found that he died of complications from the gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The shooting happened in 1987, but neither the medical examiner’s office nor Chicago Police could provide further details.
