Sometime in the summer of 1948, young Arthur Malone was assaulted and sustained injuries that eventually killed him—more than 60 years later.
The 74-year-old South Side man died at 10:59 a.m. Aug. 1 at his home in the 7200 block of South Indiana Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy did not immediately rule on cause and manner of death, but has since found Malone died of complications from blunt force injuries to the head suffered in that assault, according to the medical examiner’s office.
His death has been ruled a homicide.
