John Warship found with gunshot wounds early New Year’s Day two blocks from his West Garfield Park home

John Warship was shot to death early on New Year’s Day in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, Chicago Police said.

At 5:53 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a call of a person down in the 4600 block of West Monroe.

They found the 39-year-old lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Warship was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:10 a.m.

He lived just a couple of blocks away in the 4400 block of West Wilcox, the medical examiner’s office said.
