Dunbar Academy student Bruce Owens shot to death about a block away from his home in Englewood

Bruce Marshawn Owens, a 15-year-old Dunbar student, was shot to death Thursday night less than a block from his home in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

Shortly before 9 p.m., someone walked up to the boy in the 6900 block of South Stewart, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The teen was shot repeatedly in the chest and abdomen, and the suspect took off in a dark-colored vehicle, according to police.

Owens was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he died just over two hours later at 11:39 p.m., authorities said.

Ownes, a student at Dunbar Career Academy High School, lived less than a block from the shooting scene in the 6900 block of South Harvard.
