25-year-old Kentrell ‘NuNu’ Thompson shot to death outside gas station in Goose Island

Kentrell Thompson was shot to death early Saturday while sitting in a vehicle at a gas station in the Goose Island neighborhood on the Near West Side.

About 1:40 a.m., the 25-year-old Thompson was sitting in his vehicle at a station in the 1200 block of North Halsted, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the head when someone fired several shots at the vehicle, according to police.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The father of two was a Humboldt Park resident known to friends as “NuNu.”

A friend said in a Facebook post: “Every now and again people come into your life and leave an unforgettable impression. I loved this kid! A rare soul full of good energy.”
