18-year-old fatally shot in Gresham identified as Shane Collier, who lived just two blocks away

Eighteen-year-old Shane Collier was fatally shot Saturday evening less than two blocks from his home in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Collier was in the 1200 block of West 81st Street about 5 p.m. when someone fired multiple times at him from inside a vehicle, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Collier, who lived just blocks away, was shot in the chest and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 7:03 p.m., authorities said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.

Collier’s uncle, who established the page, wrote that his nephew was “brutally murdered this past Saturday. The senseless crime has ripped a hole in my family. Now we are faced with a tough task of laying him to rest.”
