Man found shot to death inside building in South Shore identified as 53-year-old Willy Franklin

A man who was killed in a South Shore neighborhood shooting Monday afternoon has been identified as 53-year-old Willy A. Franklin.

Officers responding to reports of a person shot at 2:24 p.m. found Franklin unresponsive in the stairwell of a building in the 6900 block of South Dorchester, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Franklin, who lived on the same block where he was shot, suffered gunshot wounds to the face and chest, authorities said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:07 p.m.

An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
