16-year-old Jesus Escobar dies about 15 hours after being wounded in drive-by shooting in Vittum Park

Sixteen-year-old Jesus Escobar of south suburban Blue Island died Sunday afternoon, about 15 hours after he was wounded in a shooting late Saturday in the Vittum Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The boy was with and a 19-year-old man standing outside about 11:55 p.m. Saturday in the 4800 block of South La Crosse Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An SUV then went past and someone inside fired shots, according to police.

Escobar was shot in the head and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the right foot and was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
