Two teenage boys called best friends—16-year-old Corey Hill Jr. and 15-year-old Jacques Mack—were killed in a shooting Wednesday morning in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.
The boys were standing on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of South Lawndale at 9:06 a.m., according to Chicago Police.
A silver vehicle pulled up an a suspect wearing a mask and carrying a rifle got out and fired multiple rounds, police said. The shooter then got back in the vehicle and drove off.
Hill and Mack were shot multiple times and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Hill, known to friends as Montana Garcia, lived in the Austin neighborhood. the medical examiner’s office spelled his name Jacquez.
Mack lived in East Garfield Park. Witnesses said they may have been visiting relatives in the neighborhood.
