Nicholas Smith killed, two men wounded when three gunmen open fire in front of home in Englewood

Three men were standing in the front yard of a home Friday night in the South Side Englewood neighborhood when three others started shooting, leaving Nicholas Smith dead and two other men wounded.

About 11:45 p.m., the three victims were standing in front of a home in the 5900 block of South Union when three gunmen walked up and opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

Smith, 25, was shot repeatedly and died at the scene at 11:54 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

A 23-year-old man shot in the chest was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital; and a 29-year-old man shot in the right leg was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

No one was in custody for the shooting early Tuesday.
