A man killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday evening in the Brighton Park neighborhood that also left a woman wounded has been identified as Michael Robert Gonzalez.
Gonzalez and the woman, both 34, were in a vehicle at 7:52 p.m. in the 3600 block of South Western, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A dark-colored SUV pulled up next to their vehicle and someone inside fired shots, police said.
Gonzalez and the woman were both shot multiple times in the body and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. Gonzalez died there at 8:26 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. The woman was listed in critical condition.
Gonzalez lived in the Pilsen neighborhood.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses for man known to friends as Mike. It had raised over $2,700 toward a $5,000 goal in two days.
The author of the page wrote of Gonzalez: “We lost a dear friend, brother, son, and father. He was friends to many, a jokester, a loyal man who would never hesitate to help someone in need.”
