Police respondiong to call of shots fired find Tony Haywood shot to death in Grand Crossing

Tony Haywood was shot to death Monday night in the South Side Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Police responded about 9:40 p.m. to a call of shots fired in the 7900 block of South Chicago and found the 25-year-old lying unresponsive in a vacant lot, Chicago Police said.

Haywood had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:55 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A vehicle was seen driving away from the scene, but the circumstances of the killing remain unknown, police said. Area South detectives are investigating.
