Steven Gaines of Green Bay dies one day after being shot during argument in East Garfield Park

Steven Gaines of Green Bay, Wisconsin, died Sunday night after he was shot the previous day in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Gaines, 51, was involved in an argument with someone at 11:04 a.m. Saturday near a vehicle in the 3300 block of West Washington, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The other person pulled out a firearm and shot Gaines in the head, authorities said.

Gaines was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 9:54 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

A person was initially taken into custody in connection with the shooting, but has since been released without charges, police said. No other details were released.
