Jawon ‘Doola’ Garrett shot to death while standing with group of men on Near West Side

Jawon Jermaine Garrett, known to friends as “Doola,” was fatally shot early Wednesday on the Near West Side.

Just after midnight, the 40-year-old Garrett was with a group of men in the 2300 block of West Madison, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Two male suspects walked up and began firing shots, police said.

Garrett suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:41 a.m., authorities said.

He lived in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

No one was in custody early Friday as Area Central detectives conduct a homicide investigation.
