Antonio Moore was fatally shot Wednesday evening in the West Side Austin neighborhood, and police searched for a suspect in a nearby park where several activities were taking place.

About 6:45 p.m., the 33-year-old Moore was shot multiple times by a person on foot in the 1400 block of North Leclaire Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Moore, who lived on the same block, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 7:25 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

The shooter ran away toward the 1300 block of North Laramie Avenue, and was pursued by officers into La Follette Park, where a weapon was recovered, police said. Officers searched the park’s field house for the suspect with a K-9 unit, but the suspect was not found.

At the time, programming was in progress at the park’s field house, including use of the fitness center, Junior Bear programming, boxing, open gym and swimming, according to the Chicago Park District.
