Video: Community members disturbed in aftermath of Humboldt Park shooting that killed two

Two men were killed and a woman was hurt in a shooting early Sunday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, and a video of the aftermath of the event is going viral.

The victims were in a car heading south about 2:35 a.m. in the 500 block of North Avers when shots were fired from the sidewalk, Chicago Police said.

The driver, Darron Thomas, 32; and the front-seat passenger, Kenneth J. Wallace, 35, were shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Wallace lived in the 4800 block of West Washington, and Thomas lived in the 3300 block of West 61st, the medical examiner’s office said.

A 26-year-old woman in the back seat suffered a graze wound to her right ankle and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where her condition stabilized.

In a video posted to YouTube, dozens of community members could be seen visibly upset that Chicago Police had removed the car from the crime scene with the bodies of Thomas and Wallace still inside. The video is titled, “So damn disrespectful, this is just not right …”

16-year-old David Moreno killed in Little Village drive-by shooting

David Moreno was standing outside in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side when the teenager was shot to death by someone on a passing car.

Moreno, 16, was standing about 7:45 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of South Keeler when a vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Moreno, of the 2700 block of South Lawndale, was shot in the upper body and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m., authorities said. Police said he was 15.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.

Darron Thomas and Kenneth J. Wallace were killed and a woman was injured in a shooting early Sunday in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Joshua Moore killed and another man wounded in shooting in Greater Grand Crossing

Joshua Moore was killed and another man wounded in a shooting Saturday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

About 10:15 p.m., Moore and another man, both 21 years old, were walking in the 1100 block of East 73rd Street when another male exited a black car nearby and opened fire, police said.

Both victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. Moore, who was shot multiple times in the chest, was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 6400 block of South Ellis.

The other man was shot in the left leg. His condition wasn’t known.

17-year-old Donell Morrision dies after being shot in the back in North Lawndale

Donell Morrison died after being shot in the back Friday evening in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

About 6:45 p.m., the 17-year-old was shot in the back in the 1200 block of South Kolin, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Morrison, of the 1300 block of South Kostner, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:04 p.m., authorities said.

Lawsuit: Chicago Police disregarded orders to stop chase that led to death of Dillan Harris

The mother of a 13-month-old Dillan Harris, who was fatally run down by a vehicle fleeing police earlier this month, is suing 20 unnamed officers involved in the chase, alleging they disregarded orders to stop the pursuit that ultimately claimed her son’s life.

Shatrelle McComb filed the suit Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of Dillan.

About 1:45 p.m. July 11, McComb was standing at a bus stop near 63rd and Ellis with Dillan in a stroller and his two older sisters close by. They were heading to 63rd Street Beach.

Meanwhile, officers were chasing a vehicle driven by Antoine Watkins, who was also named as a defendant. Police say the vehicle was fleeing a fatal shooting that occurred minutes earlier in the 7700 block of South Kingston and left 22-year-old Marvin “Capo” Carr dead.

A man suspected in the shooting that killed 7-year-old Amari Brown over the July 4th weekend was arrested in northwest Wisconsin on Wednesday.

Rasheed Martin, 20, was arrested at the Bartley Manor Complex at 3900 Tower Ave. in Superior, Wis., according to a statement from the Douglas County sheriff’s office. Sheriff’s police and the U.S. Marshal Service made the arrest.

Superior is located just over the state line from Duluth, Minn., roughly 460 miles from Chicago.

Martin is wanted in connection with the gang-related shooting that killed the 7-year-old and wounded a 26-year-old woman shortly before midnight July 4 in the 1100 block of North Harding in Humboldt Park.

Martin is being held in the Douglas County Jail pending extradition to Illinois, the sheriff’s office said.

Shooter on bicycle kills Malcolm Willie just blocks from his Austin home

Malcolm Willie was fatally shot just blocks from his home in the West Side Austin neighborhood last week.

The 21-year-old was outside in the 4900 block of West Hubbard about 7:50 p.m. July 15 when someone riding a bicycle shot him several times, Chicago Police said.

Willie, of the 500 block of North Lavergne, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 9 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

His name was not made public for over a week because officials said they were having trouble locating family members for notification.

Cass Singleton fatally shot while driving in Washington Park

Cass L. Singleton was driving in the South Side Washington park neighborhood Tuesday night when shots rang out, leaving the 26-year-old dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Singleton was driving southbound in the 5900 block of South State when a gunman got out of a red car and opened fire, along with several other males standing on the sidewalk, about 9:40 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Singleton, of the 5000 block of South Aberdeen, was shot multiple times, including at least once in the head, authorities said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Kevin Davis fatally shot while walking in Rogers Park


A man shot to death late Monday in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side has been identified as Kevin Davis.

About 11 p.m., the 36-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of North Rogers when several males approached and opened fire, police said.

Davis was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. His home address was not immediately known.

Area North detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
