Man found shot to death in Englewood identified as 22-year-old Odell Jones

Odell Jones Jr. was shot to death early Sunday in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responding about 12:50 a.m. to a call of shots fired found the 22-year-old man lying face down on the sidewalk in the 6400 block of South Oakley, according to Chicago Police.

Jones, of the 6400 block of South Claremont Avenue, had been shot in the back and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police.

Kevin Shorter fatally shot, 13-year-old boy wounded while walking in Austin

Kevin Shorter was killed and a 13-year-old boy seriously wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The 18-year-old Shorter was walking with the boy about 11:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Latrobe when someone fired shots at them, according to Chicago Police.

Shorter was struck in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:31 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 1700 block of North Lorel.

The boy was shot in the face, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, according to police.

Guadalupe Saucedo-Garcia found shot to death in backyard of a home in Gage Park

A man found shot to death in the backyard of a Gage Park neighborhood home early Saturday on the Southwest Side has been identified as Guadalupe Antonio Saucedo-Garcia.

Officers found the 27-year-old about 12:15 a.m. in the 3500 block of West 57th Street, according to Chicago Police.

Saucedo-Garcia was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:56 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 5200 block of South Kilpatrick.

An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Javon Wilson, the teenage grandson of U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, was shot to death over what police called an arugment over sneakers in his Englewood home Friday evening.

The shooting happened about 6:45 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Princeton, according to Chicago Police.

Wilson, 14, was inside his home when two people broke in, started arguing with the boy and then shot him in the head, according to a statement from the congressman.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:32 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

According to Davis, the two people who broke in were a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy who pulled a gun.

A south suburban man has been charged with fatally shooting 25-year-old Laron McCoy four months ago in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Rondale Parker, 22, allegedly shot McCoy in the head about 1:15 p.m. July 5 during an argument over a car in the 8100 block of South Burnham, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

McCoy, of the 9700 block of South Luella, died at South Shore Hospital, authorities said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Parker on Aug. 24, and he was taken into custody earlier this week. Court records list his home address in the 3700 block of 174th Court in Lansing.

A judge ordered Parker held without bond at a Thursday hearing, records show. His next court date is Dec. 6.

Man charged with June slaying of Jeremy Clark during dice game in Back of the Yards

A South Side man has been charged with killing 25-year-old Jeremy Clark man during a dice game over the summer in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Corey Binns, 24, faces one count of first-degree murder for the June 24 shooting of Clark, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Clark was playing dice about 4:30 p.m. on a sidewalk in the 5000 block of South Elizabeth when someone walked up, shot him in the neck and ran away, authorities said at the time.

Clark, of the 5700 block of South Loomis, died at Stroger Hospital at 5:11 p.m.

An arrest warrant for Binns was issued a month after the slaying, and he was taken into custody on Thursday, according to Cook County Circuit Court records.

Binns, of the 5200 block of South Loomis, was jailed without bond and is due in court again Dec. 7, records show.

Jarod Morris killed, second man wounded in shooting less than a block from his Roseland home

Jarod Morris was fatally shot and another man was wounded Thursday afternoon in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The two men were in the backyard of a residence in the 11200 block of South Edbrooke at 1:12 p.m. when someone fired shots from an alley, according to Chicago Police.

Morris, 22, was shot in the lower back and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 2 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police.

He lived less than a block away in the 11200 block of South Indiana.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the right elbow and was taken in serious condition to Roseland Hospital.

Eddie King shot to death in Auburn Gresham drive-by

Eddie King was killed in a drive-by shooting Thursday morning in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

King, 27, was in the 8300 block of South Hamilton at 11:41 a.m. when a black vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Chicago Police.

He was shot multiple times and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 12:21 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 8300 block of South Elizabeth.

The vehicle took off south through the alley after the shooting.

Michael Paul Anderson was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a popular local artists in the Marquette Park community where he lived. But on Wednesday, he became yet another victinm of Chicago street violence.

The 59-year was shot to death early Wednesday during a robbery attempt while walking from his car from his Southwest Side home, Chicago Police said.

Anderson was shot in the head at 4:09 a.m. in the 6600 block of South Washtenaw, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Witnesses said they saw three men hanging out in the area before hearing the gunshots.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Ald. David Moore called Anderson “a friend, supporter and high school alumnus.”

Joseph Anderson, found shot to death in his Rosemoor apartment, is the city’s 700th homicide victim of 2016

Joseph Anderson, who was found dead with a gunshot wound to the face on the floor of his Rosemoor neighborhood apartment Thursday night, is at least the 700th homicide victim in the city this year.

The 42-year-old Anderson was discovered on the floor of the apartment in the 400 block of East 107th Street. He was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was one of four people killed in separate shootings on the South and West sides Thursday as the city surpassed the 700 homicide total for the first time since 1998.

A total 0f 704 homicides were reported that year, a number likely to be surpassed in 2016 as the city appears on pace for 750 homicidal deaths. That includes 10 people who were shot or otherwise assaulted in prior years, but died in 2016.

Last year the city recorded 473 homicides for the entire year.

Shootings in the city are also far surpassing the 2015 totals, with Chicago Police reporting 3,165 shooting incidents through Wednesday. More than 3,290 people have been injured in those shootings, and that does not include the 629 who died as a result of being shot.
