Marqui Thompson, 15, of the 8000 block of S. Aberdeen, was shot and killed Thursday night in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The shooting happened about 9 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Ashland Avenue, according to Chicago police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien. Thomson was walking down the street when he was approached by three male offenders, who fired shots and then fled on foot, O’Brien said.
Thompson was shot in the head, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said earlier.
No one is in custody and Area South detectives are investigating.
The victim had documented gang affiliations, O’Brien said.
