Three charged with murder in shooting death at Avalon Park party

A man and two teenage boys have been charged with murder in the shooting death of a man at a party Friday night in the South Side Avalon Park neighborhood.

Three uninvited guests were asked to leave a family party in the 8400 block of South Constance Avenue about 10:45 p.m., police said.

They were escorted outside where a verbal argument ensued, police said. A 19-year-old man pulled out a handgun and shot the victim twice in the chest before running away.

Dionte Maxwell, of the 8400 block of South Marshfield Avenue, was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he died at 11:53 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Charles Southern, 19, of the 1100 block of South Vernon Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder, armed home invasion, attempted home invasion and mob action, police said.

Southern is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.

The two 16-year-old boys were also charged with first-degree murder, armed home invasion, attempted home invasion and mob action, police said.

The teen boys were expected in bond court Sunday.
