1 dead, at least 3 wounded in Northwest Side shooting

One man is dead and at least three other people are wounded after a shooting in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side Friday night.

Four people were sitting on a porch in the 2900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue about 7:50 p.m. when an unknown male approached on foot and opened fire, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

A 21-year-old man died a short time later at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County from multiple gunshot wounds to the body, Greer said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but declined to identify the man Friday night pending notification of his family.

Other injuries sustained in the shooting included a 17-year-old girl shot in the side of the head, a 30-year-old man shot in the back and a 28-year-old man shot in the arm and side, Greer said. All three were listed in “stable” condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, she said.

Fire Media Affairs spokesperson Will Knight said five people were transported from the shooting, and that all were in critical condition.

Nobody was in custody Friday night as Area North detectives investigated.
