1 killed, 1 critically hurt in Northwest Side shooting

One man was killed and another seriously wounded Friday night in a shooting on the Northwest Side. The men, both 37, were shot at 8:08 p.m. in the 2800 block of North Spaulding Avenue, police said. One man was shot in the chest and taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, authorities said. The other man was shot in the back of the head and the leg and taken to an area hospital.

According to police, an unknown male suspect emerged from two parked cars on Spaulding and opened fire on the two. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that one of the men had died, but it was not immediately clear which of the two men was killed. Area North detectives are investigating.
