Death of woman hit with pole ruled a homicide

The death of a woman struck with a pole Saturday evening in the Roseland neighborhood has been ruled a murder.

Patricia Martin, 40, was struck with a pole about 5 p.m. Saturday in the 10000 block of South Princeton Avenue, authorities said. She died at 12:01 a.m. Sunday at Roseland Community Hospital.

Martin, of an unidentified home address, died from blunt abdominal trauma and an accumulation of blood in the abdominal area, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The death was ruled a homicide.

Area South detectives are investigating.
