One killed, one wounded in Back of the Yards shooting

One man was killed and another wounded Sunday afternoon in a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

 

Ramone Godfrey, 19, died shortly after he was shot, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’ s office.

Godfrey and two other men were sitting in a vehicle about 3:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Ashland Avenue when a gunman approached and fired into the car, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said.

 

One of the men got out of the vehicle after he was shot, police said. The driver, who was not shot, left the scene with Godfrey in the car, driving eastbound on 47th Street.

 

The driver stopped in the 600 block of West 47th Street, police said.

The 22-year-old man who got out of the car was struck in the chest and arm and taken in “stable” condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.

 

Godfrey, of the 5300 block of South King Drive, was pronounced dead at 3:53 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office

 

No one was in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
