Man shot dead in West Garfield Park gas station

A man was shot dead Monday afternoon in a West Garfield Park neighborhood gas station, police said.

The man, 20, was sitting in a van parked in a gas station in the 400 block of South Pulaski Road when another vehicle approached about 3:20 p.m. and gunman inside fired shots into the van, authorities said.

Marquise Chandler, of the 4000 block of West Lexington Street, was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The gunman fled in the vehicle and is not in custody.

Area North detectives are investigating.
