A man who was beaten to death and found in a garbage can Monday morning in the South Side Englewood neighborhood has been identified.
Ernest Pritchett III, 51, was dead a the scene in the 700 block of West 61st Street, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His home address was not yet known Tuesday evening, a medical examiner’s office spokesman said.
Streets & Sanitation workers discovered the body while collecting trash about 10 a.m. Monday in an alley, police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said.
A Tuesday autopsy showed he died of multiple blunt force injuries from a beating, according to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled the death a homicide.
The body was found only a block away from one of the Chicago Public Schools’ Safe Passage Routes, about four blocks from Nicholson Technology Academy at 6006 S. Peoria St.
Area South detectives are investigating.
