One of two men shot during a fight late Friday in Wicker Park has died.
The men were in the park in the 1400 block of North Damen Avenue when they were shot about 11:45 p.m., police said at the time.
Emmanuel Bass, 34, of the 1300 block of North Leavitt Street, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he died at 8:59 a.m. Wednesday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
A 29-year-old man was shot in the right arm and abdomen, and taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.
Mike Payett, who has lived across the street from the park for 24 years, said the shooting happened after two groups of six or seven people each started fighting in the park.
The fight spilled out onto nearby Schiller Street, then went back into the park where the men were shot, Payett said. He said he heard between six and 10 gunshots.
Area North detectives are investigating.
