A man was fatally shot Tuesday morning while standing at a bus stop in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.
The victim was identified as Billy Sergent, 67, of the 6000 block of South Vernon Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Sergent was shot in the chest and buttocks about 8:45 a.m., police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The shooting happened as he stood at a bus stop in the 6000 block of South King Drive, authorities said.
He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 9:15 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Area South detectives have a person of interest in custody, but no charges had been filed as of early Tuesday afternoon.
