Update:The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Marjorie Ivy, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
An elderly man is in police custody after a 70-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in her North Side Edgewater neighborhood apartment Wednesday afternoon.
Police conducting a well-being check at the apartment in the 1300 block of West Thorndale Avenue found the woman stabbed multiple times about 12:10 p.m., News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.
Detectives believe the stabbing is domestic-related and an “elderly male” was taken into custody, police said.
The 70-year-old woman suffered a traumatic injury to her neck, and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
Area North detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
