A 49-year-old Auburn Gresham neighborhood man was shot dead Monday morning while riding in a car in the Chatham community.
Anthony Williamson was a passenger in a black Chevrolet Impala when gunfire erupted about 8:55 a.m. in the 800 block of East 82nd Street, authorities said.
Williamson, 49, of the 8700 block of South Ashland Avenue, was shot in the upper back and died at the scene, authorities said.
The driver was also wounded in the shooting, but continued eastbound on 82nd Street until crashing into three parked cars near Drexel Avenue, police said.
Paramedics took the driver, a man in his 30s, to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Area South detectives are investigating.
