Terry Burnett was charged Wednesday with fatally shooting 49-year-old Anthony Williamson as he rode in a car in the Chatham neighborhood.

Burnett, 35, allegedly shot Williamson and the driver of the black Chevrolet Impala about 9 a.m. Oct. 14 in the 800 block of East 82nd Street following an argument, authorities said.

Williamson, of the 8700 block of South Ashland Avenue, was shot in the back and died at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The death was ruled a homicide.

The driver was also wounded in the shooting, but continued eastbound on 82nd Street until crashing into three parked cars near Drexel Avenue, police said.

Paramedics took the driver, a man in his 30s, to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Burnett, of the 14600 block of South Jefferson Street in Harvey, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery, police said.

He is expected to appear for a bond hearing Thursday.
