A man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Lincoln Square McDonald’s Monday night on the Northwest Side.

The 25-year-old man was shot in the head about 7:30 p.m. in a dark-color BMW sedan in the McDonald’s parking lot in the 4900 block of North Lincoln Avenue, authorities said.

A police source said the shooting may have stemmed from a drug deal gone bad.

Steven Beasley, a Lincoln Square resident for 10 years, said he was walking past the McDonald’s shortly after 7 p.m. when he saw a man who looked to be in his 20s and a woman arguing in the BMW.

“They were freaking out,” Beasley said. The woman got out of the car, and the man tried to stop her by grabbing the jacket she was carrying, leaving at least one of the car’s rear doors open, he said. The two walked into the McDonald’s. Still yelling, the man pointed at the cellphone of another man who was eating at the restaurant, Beasley said.

As he walked away, Beasley said the two were still in the McDonald’s arguing.

Angelo Skoubis, a lifelong resident of Lincoln Square, was walking to a nearby coffee shop when he happened on the crime scene.

“I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s stunning, actually,” Skoubis said. “I’ve walked by this place a thousand times.”

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death, but could not provide further details.

Area North detectives were investigating.
