Elsaleem Mannie-El was killed and four other people were wounded shots were fired inside a South Side bar early Saturday.

All five were attending a party inside Rudy’s Lounge in the 5100 block of South Union Avenue when the gunfire erupted at 12:52 a.m., police said.

The shooting happened after an argument between party-goers and two uninvited men, authorities said. The uninvited men were being escorted to the exit by security when shots were fired near the doorway.

Mannie-El, 35, of the 8100 block of South Drexel Avenue, was shot in the head and died at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 1:38 a.m., authorities said.

A 37-year-old man was shot in the neck and a 40-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the head, police said. Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital in “stable” condition.

A 34-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the neck and took herself to Provident Hospital of Cook County, police said. She was later transferred to Stroger Hospital and was listed in “stable” condition.

A 37-year-old man also drove himself to Provident Hospital with a graze wound to the arm, police said. He was treated and released.

Donald Jackson, 51, said he was at the bar for a nephew’s birthday party, and was in the back when he heard shots ring out.

Jackson said a different nephew of his, who is in his 30s, was one of the people shot.

“I saw him lying in the bar in a pool of blood,” he said.

He didn’t know the extent of his nephew’s injuries. “There’s so much blood in that bar.”

A 36-year-old neighbor, Keisha Noel, said she heard four shots fired. She has lived next door to Rudy’s Lounge for nearly two years with four young children, between the ages of 5 months and 1 year.

“To tell you the truth, this is the first time I’ve seen something like this,” Noel said. “But I’m used to this sort of thing, this block is mostly safe, but this is still Chicago.”

Nobody has been charged in the shooting.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
