Ambrocio Flores was ordered held on $1 million bond Thursday for allegedly attempting to hire hit men to kill a girlfriend.

A police informant told investigators that Flores, 44, had reached out to them Jan. 16 looking for a hit man to kill a man and woman, according to court documents.

A day later, Flores told the informant he only had about $4,000 and wanted to hire somebody to kill the woman first, according to court documents. Flores indicated he wanted to hire somebody to kill the man later when he had more money.

The informant connected with the two undercover police officers and said he wanted a girlfriend killed on her way to work, according to court documents. Flores allegedly requested the attack look like an assault and wanted her phone and purse after the murder.

“I need them dead,” Flores allegedly said.

On Jan. 30, the “hit men” told Flores they would kill the woman for $2,500, according to court documents. Flores drove one of the undercover officers to the woman’s house, where he allegedly provided $500, a photo of the woman and her phone number.

Flores and one of the undercover officers went back to the woman’s home Feb. 3 to confirm the plan, according to court documents. He was arrested that day.

Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Flores held on $1 million bond and mandated electronic monitoring if he posts the required 10 percent.

Flores has has been married for 20 years and has three children, ages 11, 14 and 16 with his current wife, his attorney, David Smith, said. He has two children, ages 20 and 21, from a previous marriage.

Flores, who has no criminal record, works at Lady Gregory’s Irish Bar & Restaurant, Smith said. He spent the past 13 years working at Café 28 in the North Center neighborhood.

Flores will be back in court Feb. 24.
