Bernardo Catalan was fatally shot early Tuesday in the Logan Square neighborhood.
Catalan and a 23-year-old man were riding in a car through an alley in the 1900 block of North Rockwell Street when a person exited from a vehicle in front of them and opened fire about 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.
Both Catalan, 19, and the 23-year-old man were wounded, authorities said.
The gunman got back in the vehicle and fled, police said. Catalan and the 23-year-old man drove to the nearby Shakespeare District police station.
The wounded men were then taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. Catalan, of the 2100 block of North Bingham Street, died at the hospital at 9:29 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A relative declined to comment Wednesday afternoon.

The 23-year-old was initially listed in “stable” condition with gunshot wounds to the arm and leg, police said.
Nobody has been charged in the murder.
Area North detectives are investigating the shooting as gang related, police said.
