Cesar Nieves was shot to death early Saturday in the Little Village neighborhood.
Emergency personnel found the 34-year-old man in the 4100 block of West 28th Street at 3:24 a.m., police said.
Nieves, of the 2800 block of South Kedvale Avenue, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
More than a dozen people gathered on the corners of West 28th Street and South Kedvale Avenue as police investigated.
The man’s uncovered body could be seen lying face up on the sidewalk on the southwest corner — adjacent to a boarded up single-story building tagged with gang graffiti.
As police investigated, several people told officers they knew the man and the hat “he wears every day” was laying next to his body.
Nobody has been charged in the murder.
Area Central detectives are investigating.
