Samson Pension-Smith killed in second fatal shooting in two days in South Shore

Samson Pension-Smith was shot and killed Tuesday morning in the South Shore neighborhood, just two blocks from where a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot the day before.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 7900 block of South Chappel at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and found a man shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen, police said.

Pension-Smith, 20, of the 7800 block of South Kingston, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:51 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the flank, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The shooting scene was near Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, and just two blocks from where 16-year-old Abayomi Okanlawan was killed and a 17-year-old boy seriously wounded in a shooting Monday.
