Juan Cardenas dies after being dropped off at Rush Medical Center with gunshot wound

Juan Cardenas of Blue Island died early Monday after being dropped at a Near West Side hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

About 3:05 a.m. Monday, acquaintances of Juan Cardenas dropped him off at Rush University Medical Center at 1653 W. Congress Pkwy., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Cardenas, 28, of the 2700 block of Grunewald Street in Blue Island, later was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 5:02 a.m., authorities said.

Cardenas wasn’t able to communicate and investigators have not determined where the shooting happened. Area Central detectives are investigating.

Cardenas’ was fourth homicide among at least 20 people shot across Chicago last weekend.
