64-year-old Lester Weatherspoon died five months after being beaten in East Garfield Park

Lester Weatherspoon died Wednesday, five months after he was assaulted last summer in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The 64-yer-old Weatherspoon died at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday at RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was beaten up about 4 p.m. Aug. 30, 2015, in the 2700 block of West Harrison, according to Chicago Police and the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Thursday found he died of complications of blunt force injuries to the head suffered in that assault, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
